Cadmus Fashion is a revolutionary new reverse engineering application for surfacing and industrial design. Working with 3D scan data, Cadmus Fashion can:

These benefits are made possible with the introduction of a new methodology: functional decomposition. Free-form shapes are decomposed into a hierarchy of independent primary surfaces and dependent feature surfaces. The primary surfaces are automatically generated approximating the original surface data, and controlled by a specified tolerance - without the need to specify the number of control points. The smoothest possible surface is generated within the given tolerance. The feature surfaces have good quality, and guarantee smooth connections to the adjacent surfaces, automatically generating trim lines and providing a variety of fitting types.

- Recreate original design intent - By means of Cadmus Fashion free-form shapes are decomposed into a hierarchy of independent primary surfaces and dependent feature surfaces. The structure is natural, enabling industrial designers to recreate the original surface aesthetics and CAD functionality, thus producing stylish surfaces commonly used in automotive body design and consumer products.

- Produce high-quality, structured CAD models- Cadmus Fashion produces high-quality, trimmed NURBS models from polygon models or 3D point-cloud data. There is no need to generate artificial subdividing curves, fix patch boundaries in advance or partition the point cloud into four-sided sub-regions. Just roughly identify point regions with general topology and Cadmus Fashion will do the rest: extends surfaces, covers holes and performs trimming, where needed.

- Automatic, "self-tuning" surface fitting - In Cadmus Fashion, surface approximation is controlled exclusively by a selected distance tolerance, without the need to specify the number of control points and smoothness weights. The smoothest possible surface is generated automatically within the given tolerance. Primary surface fitting features include adaptive control point density, natural surface extensions, and hole and defect covering.

- A variety of feature surfaces - Feature surfaces in Cadmus Fashion guarantee smooth connections to adjacent surfaces. Feature surface capabilities include constrained fitting, constant and variable radius rolling-ball blends, swept free-form surfaces, N-sided patches. The special feature fitting operations provide the best possible surface quality by fully exploiting the 'a priori' knowledge of the feature type and the adjacent surface geometries.

- Automatic trimline relocation - Cadmus Fashion computes ideal system curves for the CAD model; this would be hardly possible using manual techniques over smooth meshes. The boundaries of the various blends and swept surfaces are faired, and automatically relocated in order to provide optimized quality for the feature surfaces and trimming the primaries.
